Soooooo I got stuck in mud. It all started with me having to go pee and at Samaritan’s Purse they don’t always have bathrooms at a work site so you have to go in the woods sometimes. So we were at this house and she had a lot of open fields around her house and like a tree line with woods like pretty far from the house so I told my leader that was going to use the bathroom and she said “okay.”. So I facetimed my dad just incase I got kidnapped or something but I’m in Kentucky and he’s in Georgia but STILL it made me feel better, anyways I found this like ledge type deal and it was in the woods so I was covered and I used the bathroom BUT I got pee on my boot so there was a creek in front of me and like its the ledge (where i peed) and a path to get down to the creek and it was a little walk to get to the creek so I went down to the creek and it was surrounded by mud no grass which is understandable they just got flooded two months ago but it looked really solid so I didn’t think anything about it but I was wrong at first it was kinda hard to walk and I was slightly sinking and I was like it’ll get better…..it didn’t at all. So I made it to this hill and was trying to pull myself out by the roots or anything needless to say it didn’t work at all. I am still on the phone with my dad the whole time so i hang up on him to call my leader to come and help me but she is taking wood out of the house and she is like hold on Kaleya and i’m like no like come now and she says she’s about to come so we hang up, then i call my dad back and he was like just ditch the boots but I still could move my right foot really easily and I got that foot out really easily and my left foot was a struggle because my left foot was really deep. So I crawled out of the mud back up the hill I came down and I see my leader and one of my teammates Lilli coming to help me and they asked me to show them where I got stuck so we went down their and at this point I’m still on the phone with my dad and mom and I showed them where I was and my mom too because she said I WAS BEING DRAMATIC (I WAS NOT) and she goes “Go back and get your boots” I was like bruh what like it took me 15 minutes to get out there’s no way and I hung up and……Went back down there and got my right boot out really easily but my left boot a WHOLE different story like fr, I was struggling and Lilli started to come down there with me and I was like “Lilli don’t come down here you’re gonna get stuck” and she said “No No I’m not” and I was like “Okayyyyy whatever you say” so she stands on like the side of the hill and doesn’t sink and our leader is standing up on the ledge and is like “guys hurry up like Steve (our team leader for SP) is going to be so mad” and me struggling trying to this DUMB boot out is like “Gracie I am trying” and Lilli is laughing so hard. So FINALLY I get this boot out after the girls give me the idea to dig under it and it works so I throw the boot on the hill and crawl out but it should end here but it doesn’t at all. Lilli gets stuck (not joking) she tries to turn around on the hill and steps one step to the left and immediately sinks and is like “uh oh” and I die laughing and Gracie is like “guys come on we are going to be late for dinner like we don’t have time for this” and me and Lilli and are laughing saying “Gracie we did not plan this at all” so Lilli’s shoes get stuck in the mud so she has to pull them out finally and crawls out and we are all laughing so hard. So we make it back to the house and everyone looks at us and just laughs because they don’t understand what just happened. It was so bad that we couldn’t get into the vans like that obviously so Steve cut the bottom of the trash bag and we wore them like a dress and put our shoes in another one. Yep so that was week one of SP…LOL

  1. I don’t know why but the whole time I’m reading this story I’m thinking it is happening late at night when it’s dark. It wasn’t until you mentioned being late for dinner that I realized it wasn’t. Needless to say, if it was in the dark you might not have made it out at all. Bless your heart.

  2. Funny – I kind of wish I had been there to witness that!!
Praying for you and your team

  3. Well, the race is know for it’s poo stories and poo stories are usually a personal experience. This is the first pee story I’ve every heard and it involves 2 more people. I can’t wait to hear the story in person. LOL. Thanks!!
